So Close Yet So Far Out - That’s Austin Motel. Located right on bustling South Congress Avenue, the historic motel opened in 1938 and has seen it all. Lately that’s meant endless pool parties, a film series for Summer / Halloween/ and the Holidays, civic activations to get out the vote, celebrations of L-O-V-E, an ever changing iconic marquee message, and that neon rainbow holiday experience: Winter Wanderland.
